The Queer Metadata Collective is a group of nearly 500 cataloguers, librarians, archivists, museum workers, scholars, and information professionals with a concerted interest in improving the description and classification of queer people in Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums, and Special Collections (GLAMS) and other information systems.
The Collective is made up of (and seeks members) who identify as LGTBQIA2S+ or belong to marginalized gender, relationship, or asexual orientation, including those who are as well as those who are intersex, trans / gender diverse / non-binary, and/or Two Spirit. The primary goal of the QMDC is to develop a set of best practices for the description, cataloging, and classification of queer information resources in GLAMS.
The QMDC has begun this work by splitting into five different working groups (Subject Headings, Classification, Archival/Museum Description, Ethical Framework, and Names, Naming, and Authorities). In recognition of the historical whiteness of GLAM professions and the limitations that come within these colonial infrastructures, it is our goal to center the voices and expertise of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color within QMDC as leaders, collaborators, or peer reviewers.
If you are interested in participating in a working group, please fill out the form at

If you are interested in serving as a peer reviewer, or would like updates from this group, you can sign up at

Thanks so much!
