Hello,
Thank you for getting the NMRT November discussion post going, Amy! I have only been working in a library for a few months, so my biggest challenge is the same as when I started.
In my previous position, I came from a job that was very structured. While I had many responsibilities, they were fairly predictable. I always thrive on being busy, so I enjoy having many simultaneous ongoing projects, but I have found that I have more open-ended projects than before. Sometimes, my projects have deadlines, but other times, the deadlines are in the distant future. For someone like me (a little type-A, I guess LOL), it helps to have specific deadlines and all of the information necessary to complete the projects.
Another difference between librarianship and my previous job that I am really enjoying is that each day is different! I may have meetings mixed with instructional sessions on one day, and on another day attend a workshop and spend time creating LibGuides. The variety of my current position is an aspect of the job that I really enjoy.
I look forward to hearing the experience of others!
