May Discussion Topic: What if you found a magic wand to use in your library...

  • 1.  May Discussion Topic: What if you found a magic wand to use in your library...

    Posted May 08, 2025 05:37 PM
A black wand with a pink sparkle hovers over an open book as purple bubbles rise up.

    Prompt:

Imagine you have a magic wand that could instantly change or implement one thing in your library – no limitations!

What would it be and why?

This could be related to resources, services, space, community engagement, or anything else.

Now let's engage in magic and reality!

    Step 1 (Realm of Magic):

    • Start your response to our May discussion topic with one or more #tags to help us get a quick idea of the type of library your idea is most applicable to.
      • i.e. #elementary, #middle, #high, #private, #school, #college, #university, #urban , #rural, #public, #state, #medical, #law, #veteran, #corporate, etc.
    • In about 1-5 sentences, share your response to the prompt highlighted above (i.e. what you'd change or implement with your magic wand, and why).

    Step 2 (Realm of Reality):

    • For this part, add a tag to help us know more about how long you've been a librarian (or librarian-in-training)
      • i.e. #student, #newcareer (0-9 yrs), or #experienced (10+ years)
    • In 1-5 sentences, answer the question below that reflects your reality.
      • Experienced librarians, have you tried to implement change along these lines in the past or recently? Share your project status, pro-tip and/or lesson learned.

      • New & early career librarians, what's one realistic small change you're hoping to champion or see happen in your library in the near future?

      • For students & future librarians, what are your ideas based on what you've experienced so far? Or share your thoughts about what others have posted!

Bonus Magic Dust (optional):   Include a picture of what your magic librarian wand would look like (imaginary or real!).

Shows a librarian wearing a cape and pointy hat, and holding a staff and a book. Behind are stacks of books, a potion bottle, a star-shaped magic wand. To the right of the person is a white rabbit in a magicians hat placed on top of a small table.

Everyone is invited to discuss and ask questions, whether you post an answer to the original prompt or not!
