Thank you for bringing up these questions, Janina!
For me, 2024 marked the year that I officially started working in librarianship, after previously working in a gallery setting at an educational institution. I feel like I learned a tremendous amount about collection development, creating LibGuides for many subjects, and collaborating with higher ed faculty in a community college setting. 2025 will bring transitions that I am excited about! I think that the professional development that comes from being part of ALA round tables and groups is immensely helpful. I like learning about upcoming professional development opportunities and reading about the experiences of colleagues. In 2025, I hope to join new organizations within ALA such as the AASL.
I look forward to reading the experiences of others.

Subject: January Discussion Topic: Reflecting Back & Charging Ahead
Happy New Year NMRT Members!
The NMRT Online Programs Committee's first discussion post of the new year celebrates YOUR victories! Welcome to a new year of librarianship. Let's continue to share and grow professionally this year together. Naturally, in January we hope for prosperity. We strategize our goals and look ahead for any opportunities to seize. As new librarians, many of us are interested in how our colleagues set career markers, and more importantly what it takes to reach those finish lines.
For our January 2025 NMRT January Discussion topic, consider the following and share:
What was a goal you accomplished in 2024? Looking back, reflect on how that victory (whether significant for you or minor but critical) has set you up for this year. What is a new goal you plan to tackle in 2025? Lastly, what internal and external resources do you need to capitalize on to meet this goal?
Are you looking for additional support ideas? Check out the latest "ALA and NMRT Resources for New Librarians" article by Marina Brint, University of Western Ontario.
Thank you in advance for sharing with your colleagues!
