Core Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Special Projects Showcase

Making DEI a Core part of Technical Services

The Core Diversity and Inclusion Committee is seeking presentation proposals for lightning talks at the ALA Annual Conference 2023 in Chicago, IL on Saturday June 24, 2023 at 11-12PM CT. This session will be live and in-person only. All presenters must be in attendance. There is no virtual option.

Over the last few years, particularly since the 2020 summer of racial reawakening, many libraries have started special projects and initiatives to address diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism in our collections, technology, staffing and leadership. This presentation showcase will highlight some of the ongoing or completed projects by librarians at public, academic, and special libraries. Presenters will be selected to ensure that this showcase is of value to librarians and administrators in a wide variety of roles and from many types of libraries.

This presentation will highlight some of the ongoing initiatives, projects, or staff development by librarians in technical services roles focusing on staff training and how they are working to actively engage staff with DEI in their workplace and duties. We invite submissions from any area of Technical Services or cross departmental projects. Preference will be given to projects that showcase value to librarians, staff, and administrators in a variety of roles library size.

We are seeking lightning talks (5-7 minutes).
