Response to NMRT Open Letter list-serv discussion

    Hello all,

The NMRT Executive Board had our summer board meeting last Friday afternoon and the incoming Vice President, President, and Past Presidents wanted to follow up on the listserv discussion in response to the NMRT Board open letter.

We appreciate the open conversation and concerns raised from listserv members. It is more than fair to ask about our stance on antiracism, and what actions we will take on behalf of our round table and members. To this end, we want to share  a beginning list of commitments on incorporating antiracist initiatives for our round table and our members. We also acknowledge that equity, diversity, and inclusion work often falls disproportionately on our colleagues of color, and want to reiterate that we are committed to ensuring that this work is taken up by all of us.  We are our members and we look forward to all of us to incorporate these important changes. Initiatives that the 2020-2021 board will be exploring and incorporating this upcoming year include:

    • Adding additional training on anti-oppressive facilitation and management practices for incoming committee chairs and board members

    • Increasing the transparency of position requirements and commitment within our organization (committees and executive board), in order to be more inclusive in recruitment practices

    • Critically examining the makeup of the executive board and developing more inclusive recruitment and retention practices

    • Incorporating more comprehensive guidelines and training to ensure additional support with our Mentorship program and Resume Review

    • Developing a code of conduct for both online and in-person NMRT events

    • Renaming the "Alternative Voices"  blog series to "Voices," and centering the experiences of BIPOC colleagues

    • Exploring the possibility of reducing fees for student members
