Hello NMRT Members,
The most recent meeting of the Intellectual Freedom Committee was held today, Monday, April 15. Here are some updates from the meeting:
1. The theme for Banned Books Week 2024 was shared last week in honor of National Library Week. This year's theme is "Freed Between the Lines," and the logo looks great! Merchandise will be for sale by the end of this week at the ALA store. They will also be releasing versions of the theme in other languages soon.
2. Right to Read Day was last Monday, and this year's theme was "Don't Let Censorship Eclipse Your Freedom to Read," in honor of the solar eclipse that took place on the same day. Over 2000 letters were written to Congress last week in support of the right to read.
3. The Book Resume Project by Unite Against Book Bans, an initiative of the ALA, continues to add new book resumes. Over 100 new book resumes have been added recently. These help to provide accurate summaries of book plots and help librarians defend books facing challenges. The book resumes can be accessed by clicking here.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you,
