Seeing as how this group is aimed at New Members, I was slightly taken aback that there were no discussions posted at all. Therefore, I decided that I would start an introduction one and see if it takes off.

    Hello Everyone!

I just joined ALA at the end of March and am looking to learn as much as I can about the organization, fellow members and do some networking. I start my MLIS-Archival Studies in September from UWM-online. I'm eager to get started and only wish that I had applied for the summer semester instead! I'm married, no kids, live in Virginia, and trained as a police officer. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and helping out where I can.

    Hello Jonique!

Congradulations both for getting involved with ALA-NMRT and with starting your adventure of library school! Since you are interested in Archival Studies you might want to check out the Society of American Archivists as well. I think that everyone is getting all hype up for the Annual Meeting in June and that might be why their is no discussions here. Also their is a monthly discussion group that takes place on the NMRT listserv. Many members perfer to use the listserv to ALA Connect unfortunatly. You can sign up for the mailing lists here. http://lists.ala.org/sympa

You and I seem to have alot in common. I was also trained as a police officer; I got my BA in Criminology from Suffolk University. I guess every librarian fancies themselves a detective and vice versa.  I am also currently a library school student. I am curently the president of the ALASC at Simmons College. I hope to one day become a technical servieces librarian.

    Hi Jonique,

You're right, there isn't a lot of dicussion on ALA Connect.  That's partially because it is a new way of communicating, and we're still adjusting to it.

The best way of getting in the loop of what's going on in NMRT is through the listserv.  There is information at http://ala.org/ala/mgrps/rts/nmrt/news/nmrtmailinglists.cfm.  We have monthy guided discussions on topics of interest to knew librarians, and anyone can post other items of interest or dicussions at any time.

    Hope to see you there!

    Jenny
