My library branch is small so we don't have many programs, but we do market our collection on social media pretty heavily (at least. Since I took over the social media last year). One way I show off the collection is by doing "Birthday" posts for famous people who we have books about in our library (we're an art, architecture, and music library). Sometimes these get lots of engagement and sometimes not much, depending on how popular the person is already. Also, graphic design tools: Canva is my friend. It's great, we have a paid account for the library but even the free accounts are fantastic for creating nice designs, and they have a host of "templates" in every pre-set size you could need for whatever size graphic you need.
I would love to see other people's ideas for marketing as social media can't do everything! We are planning on having more programs in Fall, so I need to figure out how to get people in the door!

Subject: Online Discussion Forum June 2021 Topic: Marketing Library Programs
Hello everyone!
This is Nick Weingardt with the Online Discussion Committee. I hope you are enjoying your spring so far.
This month our topic is Marketing Library Programs.
Library programing is a great way to get patrons involved and interested in the library. Providing story times, computer class, yoga, etc. draws in patrons with different interests and needs. These programs take lots of time and effort, so you want great attendance. Advertising what you offer is the first step to getting more people in the door.
For this month, please share how you have marketed your library program.
Here are some ideas:
- What is the best way to start a library newsletter or blog?
- What is the best way to use the library website for promoting library programs?
- What are some useful social media platforms for libraries?
- What tools are available to help with graphic design?
- How do you make sure that your advertising matches the library brand and goals?
