Has anyone noticed that some vendors provide TR_J1(Excluding OA Gold) reports that include OA usage as well as subscription title usage?  I'm noticing this in more than a few of our packages.

I thought that COUNTER report excludes usage from OA titles -- am I correct or do I not understand what I'm doing (which has happened before!).

This is just creating more work for me to separate usage out from the OA vs. the paid titles.

    Thanks.

    Hi Beth,

I don't know if the below will help, but perhaps.

If the title is a hybrid one, then activity on the non-OA content should be in the TR_J1, while the OA content should not.

Also content published before a journal became fully OA might still be behind the paywall and is thus included.

Lastly some non-research content in OA journals might be behind the paywall - editorial or commissioned content - and thus eligible for TR_J1.

You can see the split between OA and non-OA content by creating a custom TR report where you include the element Access_Type. Each title will then be reported with separate numbers for OA_Gold and Controlled. To see the specific articles you'd need to use some type of Item level report.
