Undergraduate Open education Resources librarian
The Albert B. Alkek Library at Texas State University is seeking forward-thinking, user-oriented, energetic, and collaborative applicants for the position of Undergraduate Open Education Resources Librarian. Reporting to the Head of Information & Undergraduate Services, this position facilitates evaluating and implementing open and affordable learning materials, advocates for OER adoption to faculty, and develops relationships with campus partners to promote student success.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and initiate opportunities for open and affordable learning materials adoption focused on undergraduate students using various traditional and creative methods.
- Guide faculty in discovery, dissemination, and assessment of open content.
- Identify library-owned resources that could increase affordability and create a sustainable process with supportive colleagues.
- Participate in initiatives designed to improve undergraduate success, such as the Managing Textbook Costs Committee.
- Join, guide, and collaborate with campus partners in the adoption of OER for core curriculum courses.
- Provide training for faculty, staff, and students involved in OER creation/adaptation.
- Support student learning and engagement through campus-wide relationships; assist in promotion of undergraduate-focused programming in Information & Undergraduate Services.
- Assess and document/report the progress/impact of OER efforts.
- Keep abreast of and share emerging trends, developments, and best practices related to OER and its related practices.
- Provide quality reference services and research consultations to library patrons.
- Explore and pilot new ways of engaging with a diverse undergraduate community in collaboration with librarians, teaching faculty, and synergistic campus partners.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Master's degree from an ALA accredited program.
- Familiarity with current theory, practices, issues and trends related to open education, open textbooks, open pedagogy, open licensing, fair use, and author rights.
- Knowledge of major OER repositories and open training materials, specifically for higher education.
- Writing skills to create promotional materials, training content, statistical reports, and general correspondence.
- Oral communication and presentation abilities.
- Computer skills and familiarity with emerging technologies / Ability to assess and learn new technologies quickly.
- Flexible and creative in performing multiple responsibilities in a changing environment.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Initiative and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for a diverse patron population.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of how to discover, adopt, revise, and remix OER.
- Experience regarding best practices associated with the adoption, modification, and creation of OER.
- Experience in the evaluation of textbooks/instructional materials.
- Skills in promoting and marketing programs to the university community.
- Instruction or Instructional Design experience.
- Knowledge of general library and campus resources & services.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Advancement in rank is available through the Librarian/ Curator Career Ladder. Available ranks include Assistant Librarian, Associate Librarian, Librarian, and Senior Librarian. Benefits include monthly contribution to health insurance/benefits package and retirement program. No state or local income tax.
