Our relationship to work is changing for many reasons, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Many librarians report burnout, shifting priorities, and a desire to return to our most critical work. While our workplaces changed rapidly since March of 2020, some argue that the continued corporatization of higher education is fueling workplaces full of urgency and a demand for change for change's sake. How does this impact our work as managers and leaders in libraries? What role does innovation play in information literacy programs? And importantly, how can we sustain meaningful work while maintaining a culture of care?
The ACRL Instruction Section Management & Leadership committee is hosting two opportunities for small group discussion around "slow librarianship" and the constant push for innovation. To guide the informal discussions, we will recommend an optional pre-reading. There will be no presentation, but instead a chance to chat, learn, and maybe even strategize with a small group of colleagues who are working through similar issues.
