The mission of the Library Instruction Round Table (LIRT) is to provide a forum for discussion of activities, programs, and problems of instruction in the use of libraries; to contribute to the education and training of librarians for library instruction; to promote instruction in the use of libraries as an essential library service, and to serve as a channel of communication on library instruction between the ALA divisions, ALA and ACRL committees, state clearinghouses, Project LOEX, other organizations concerned with instruction in the use of libraries, and members of the Association.

    The Library at NYU Shanghai seeks an Instructional Services Librarian, who will report to the Head of Reference & Instruction Services. The incumbent will take a leadership role in supporting the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and Writing curricula and first-year programs, and contribute to the overall library programs.

    Position Summary

    The Division of Library and Information Resources is accepting applications for its Research and Instruction Librarian position.

    Minimum Required Education

    Master's Degree from an ALA accredited program in library and information science.

    Minimum Required Experience

    Experience in planning and/or providing information literacy instruction or other teaching experience.

    Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications

    Job Duties and Responsibilities
    • Provides basic and in-depth reference services and research consultation to faculty, students, and staff.
    • Develops and implements virtual and in class library instruction programs, workshops and tours.
    • Creates and maintains instructional materials (online videos and tutorials), and research guides, using appropriate learning management software, new media production tools, online and mobile learning tools.
    • Coordinates with Dean and Library Liaisons to actively build professional relationships with faculty, students, and staff in assigned academic programs and across the university to develop research and instructional service strategies.
    • Actively engage with collection building in support of research and teaching needs of faculty and students of assigned academic programs.
    • Design and implement assessment tools to evaluate student instructional effectiveness and gather feedback for further opportunities of improvement and impact on student learning.
    • Lead the library efforts in social media and digitizing efforts in collaboration with other librarians.
    • Collaborate and work with Jake Ayers Research Library faculty and students at the e-Center.
    • Coordinate relevant visual displays observing major university and national calendar observances.
    • Will share nights and weekends.
