The mission of the Government Documents Round Table (GODORT) is to (1) To provide a forum for discussion of problems, concerns, and for exchange of ideas by librarians working with government documents; (2) to provide a force for initiating and supporting programs to increase availability, use, and bibliographic control of documents; (3) to increase communication between documents librarians and other librarians; (4) to contribute to the extension and improvement of education and training of documents librarians.

    Greetings,

    It is my pleasure to announce that ALA Council unanimously passed the below resolution. Many thanks to all who worked on this and to those who protect and preserve government information.

    APPROVED, ALA CD#49, as amended

    The ALA Council approved the Resolution to Support and Commend the Work of Archivists, Librarians, and Institutions Preserving Government Information since January 21, 2025

    RESOLVED, that that the American Library Association (ALA) on behalf of its members:

    1. issue and widely distribute a statement supporting the preservation of digital government information and data and in that statement;
    2. call on the U.S. government and all entities and organizations that create or steward government information to act in accordance with ALA's Key Principles of Government Information including collecting, maintaining, and disseminating government information to the public;
    3. commend the organizations, institutions, librarians, and archivists who have supported preservation and access to federal government information in 2025 and beyond
