The mission of the Government Documents Round Table (GODORT) is to (1) To provide a forum for discussion of problems, concerns, and for exchange of ideas by librarians working with government documents; (2) to provide a force for initiating and supporting programs to increase availability, use, and bibliographic control of documents; (3) to increase communication between documents librarians and other librarians; (4) to contribute to the extension and improvement of education and training of documents librarians.

    This is a reminder that the nominations for GODORT Awards and Preservation Grant are currently open. Consider applying or nominating someone for a GODORT Award! We offer seven annual awards recognizing excellence in government information, along with the GODORT Preservation Grant.  Deadlines are December 1, 2024 for the General Awards and March 1, 2025 for the Rozkuszka Scholarship and Preservation Grant.
     
    Award Highlights:
    • James Bennett Childs Award: The James Bennett Childs Award is a tribute to an individual who has made a lifetime and significant contribution to the field of documents librarianship. 
    • ProQuest/GODORT/ALA "Documents to the People" Award: Recognizes efforts encouraging the use of government documents, with a $3,000 stipend to be used to support a project of the recipient's choice (sponsored by ProQuest).
    • NewsBank/Readex/GODORT/ALA Catharine J. Reynolds Research Grant: Provides $2,000 for research in the field of documents librarianship, or in a related area that would benefit the individual's performance as a documents librarian or make a contribution to the field
    • Bernadine Abbott Hoduski Founders Award: Recognizes significant contributions to state, local, or international documents librarianship.
    • Margaret T. Lane / Virginia F. Saunders Memorial Research Award: Given for outstanding published research involving government information, with a $1,000 prize (sponsored by Readex).
    • W. David Rozkuszka Scholarship: Offers $3,000 for individuals  currently working with or in government information/documents in a library and is trying to complete a masters degree in library science. 
    • GODORT Preservation Grant: Provides up to $5,000 of funding for library work associated with preserving government information in all formats and from all levels of government in order to sustain current and future access.
