  • 1.  GODORT Task Force on Committee Size & Composition - GODORT Member Feedback Requested

    Hi all,

Back in Fall 2023, the GODORT Steering Committee approved the formation of a Task Force on Committee Size & Composition (TF on CS & C). The impetus for this work was the recent challenge of filling all the volunteer committee positions that are open to GODORT members each year. We have added several committees over the last several years and it has been a challenge to fill all the new volunteer spots (currently 83). The TF on CS & C (myself, Kelly Wilson, Monique Oldfield), with feedback from Steering, looked at ways that we could potentially combine committees or change the size of certain committees to help reach our goals of improved workload efficiencies and not having as many unfilled committee spots.

At the February Steering meeting, the TF on CS & C presented a few different possibilities to Steering. You can view the different proposals here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1rSWlTlXP-tgNxErOhayYIuwp28bOUTU-tjRff6ydqhI/edit?usp=sharing. These are simply starting point suggestions and we don't expect any of these proposals to be adopted as-is. We encourage feedback and discussion -- either in this thread or through an anonymous feedback form here: https://forms.gle/cBhVWMSLui2CYo4w9. The TF hopes to have concrete Policy & Procedural Manual (PPM) proposed changes ready for the Annual Conference this June.

Thank you for your consideration & thought on these proposals!

    Kian

    Hi Kian,

Thanks to you and all who are working on this endeavor.

I'm not sure I understand Proposal B and Proposal C vs. Proposal A... so here are my summaries.

    Proposal A

    • Reduces number of committees total from 16 to 10, each with 6 members
    • Membership Committee combines 3 previous Committees (Awards, Nominations, Conference)
    • Programming Committee combines 3 previous Committees (Help! Program, Kenya Flash)
    • Social Media, Website, & Tech Help combines 2 previous Committees (Social Media & Outreach, Technology)

    Proposal B

    • Reduces to 10 Total Committees, each with varying number of members
    • Unnamed Committee #1 combines 3 previous Committees (Membership, Nomination, Social Media/Outreach)
    • Unnamed Committee #2 combines 2 previous Committees (Technology, Help!)
    • Unnamed Committee #3 combines 2 previous Committees (Program, Kenya Flash)
    • Unnamed Committee #4 combines 2 previous Committees (Awards, Conference)
    • Unnamed Committee #5 combines 2 previous Committees (Education, GIC)

    Proposal C

    • Reduces to 10 Total Committees, each with varying number of members
    • Membership Committee combines 2 previous Committees (Membership, Nominating)
    • Social Media, Website, & Tech Help combines 3 previous Committees (Social Media, Technology, Help!)
    • Cataloging & REGP combines 2 previous Committees (Cataloging + REGP)
    • Conference & Program combines 2 previous Committees (Conference, Program)
    • Education & GIC combines 2 previous Committees (Education, GIC)

    Did I summarize that accurately?
