ALA Annual 2022 Session: Sustaining Democracy through Voter Engagement: National Voter Registration Day 2022

  • 1.  ALA Annual 2022 Session: Sustaining Democracy through Voter Engagement: National Voter Registration Day 2022

    Posted Jun 14, 2022 02:23 PM

Join us for an important session at the ALA Annual Conference on registering and engaging voters!

    Date/Time: Sunday, June 26, 2022 from 4:00pm – 5:00pm ET

    Location: Washington Convention Center, 150A

In 2022, as we emerge from pandemic restrictions and with changes to voting laws in more than 40 states, libraries play a critical role in re-engaging communities, informing voters, and ensuring that every eligible voter has the opportunity to make their voice heard. Alongside ALA's voter engagement efforts and IMLS's voter education initiative, the Committee on Library Advocacy (COLA) is launching a concerted effort to increase awareness of and participation in National Voter Registration Day (NVRD), a non-partisan civic holiday that celebrates democracy and encourages participation in all levels of government. COLA is engaging with external partners and across ALA member groups to amplify outreach and ensure that libraries of all types and serving all communities speak with a united voice about the profound impact of libraries in voter engagement. Hear about that work from practitioners as well as thought leaders and service providers.

Moderator: Dr. Steven D. Yates, Chair of ALA Committee on Library Advocacy

    Speakers:

    • Abby Kiesa, Deputy Director, Tufts Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement
    • Danny Navaro, Partner Engagement Director, Nonprofit VOTE and NVRD
    • Roberta Sittel, Department Head, Government Information Connection, University of North Texas, chair of GODORT
