  • 1.  Modeling the FDLP: Your Feedback is Vital

    Fellow members of GODORT:

I'm sure that most of you already know that the Government Printing Office has retained Ithaka S+R to help develop a model for the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) that would more efficiently accomplish its mission in a rapidly changing digital environment. To date Ithaka has released three documents:

    1. A background paper that offers a brief overview of the Program, and introduces some of the challenges and opportunities that will be addressed by Ithaka S+R in their final report.
    2. An environmental scan that gives a broad overview of the issues and trends impacting libraries and government publishing.
    3. A white paper describing and analyzing existing models of library collaboration that may help to inform the development of new models for the Program.

Your feedback on these documents is vital to the success of the modeling project -- and no, it's not too late. Ithaka expects that any further comments made before January 31, 2011, can be accommodated in the final report.

For more information on the project, and to submit your comments, please visit http://fdlpmodeling.net/, or email Ithaka S+R at fdlp-modeling@ithaka.org.

GPO will also host a webinar on this project on January 13, 2011 at 2pm EST, where Ithaka S+R will review the background and goals of the project. They will also provide a brief summary of the findings that have emerged from their analysis.

The webinar will take place on January 13, 2011 at 2:00pm EST, via OPAL (GPO’s webinar software). Space is limited to the first 100 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. GPO recommends arriving at least 10 minutes early in order to reserve your spot and test your connection. You can connect to the GPO OPAL Room at: http://www.conference321.com/masteradmin/room.asp?id=rs38bb0e4b3a5a. For more information on GPO’s OPAL implementation and OPAL requirements, visit: http://www.fdlp.gov/outreach/onlinelearning/68-opal.

    I'll be there.
