Contacting officials on Compendia Branch and GPO funding: 2012 appropriations

  • 1.  Contacting officials on Compendia Branch and GPO funding: 2012 appropriations

When you contact your elected officials regarding funding for the Census Bureau's Compendia Branch and for GPO's Salaries and Expenses budget for FDLP and FDsys, let them know these are requests for appropriations in the 2012 budget.  When President Obama released his 2012 Budget Request to Congress, he included the U.S. Census Bureau’s Budget Estimates, which called for the termination of their Statistical Compendia Branch.  We want funding for this branch restored and maintained at $2.9 million.  We want GPO's Salaries and Expenses budget to be funded at $42,173,000 to preserve public access to government publications through the FDLP and FDsys.  They were funded at 39.9 million by the recently passed extension through Sep 2011, I believe.

In addition to contacting your own district Representative and state Senators, we particularly need to target members of the House and Senate Appropriations committees, so if your own legislator is not on this committee, write the Chair or another legislator from your state if there is one.  Members of the committees can be found here:

    House: http://clerk.house.gov/committee_info/index.aspx?comcode=AP00

    Senate: http://appropriations.senate.gov/about-members.cfm

Please feel free to post an update if you have further information, that's what is wonderful about community!
