Greetings! This is the FTRF Liaison Report I intend to give in 15 minutes.
ALA GODORT Freedom to Read Foundation (FTRF) Liaison Report
Submitted By: Baxter Q. Andrews, Idaho Commission for Libraries
FTRF was established in 1969 as a First Amendment legal defense organization affiliated with the American Library Association. FTRF is a separate corporation from the American Library Association, working in close liaison with the ALA.
Developing Issues Committee: This committee is tasked with monitoring news on censorship issues pertinent to FTRF, identifies key intellectual freedom issues that could be targets for future litigation, and suggests topics for board meeting discussions.
First, I want to thank Jill Vassilakos-Long who graciously held the liaison position for two (2) terms, that’s six (6) years.
This committee identified and submitted to the Freedom to Read Foundation Trustees, the following five (5) developing issues with links to supporting articles: Diversity and Free Speech Issues on Campus, Services to Diverse Populations, Privacy and National Security, Right to be Forgotten, and Religion in libraries (related to broad collections on any controversial topics). These were provided to the Trustees at ALA.
Email me if you want the three (3) page document. I can send in Word or pdf. My email is baxter.andrews@libraries.idaho.gov.
Lastly, this is my first Liaison Report if you have suggestions or want additional information, please let me know.
