EDIT -- Apologies, I had the wrong link for the survey - the link has now been updated below to https://sites.psu.edu/computing/gaming-communities/.
Greetings!
I'm currently working with a faculty member at my campus on a research project entitled: "Gaming Communities as Virtual Third Places: A Quantitative Assessment" - as part of that project, I'm reaching out to share with you a survey (below) about the use of gaming communities for social interaction!
In addition to asking you all to consider taking the survey yourselves, I'd also like to ask you to please consider sharing this survey with anyone you know who also plays games or considers themselves to be a gamer, and especially with any clubs, organizations, or communities focused on gaming at your campuses or in your own lives.
Our work is building on a previous study examining social media sites as new "third places" in our society (ie, places where people come together socially outside of work or home) - see citation below*. I know many of us have active gaming communities within our libraries and/or our lives - we're excited to see if gaming communities also fit the model of a "third place" established by the first team of authors, and we really appreciate any help you can give us in broadening our pool of responses!
If you are willing to take the survey, your responses will be recorded confidentially and no identifying information will be published. We estimate that the survey will take less than 15 minutes for you to complete.
Please note - survey participants will also have the option to enter a drawing for a $25 Amazon gift card! This drawing will be held once data collection is complete (anticipated Summer 2023), and the contact information you may choose to provide for the drawing will be stored separately from and without connection to your completed survey response.
You must be 18 years of age to participate and your participation is voluntary - you give your implied consent to participate by completing the survey and you have the right to decline to participate. If you are willing to participate in the research project described above, please access and complete the survey at the following URL:
