GameRT still needs a new treasurer. Our board meetings will most likely be online so travel is not required. This position is a great way to start working on a national level to further your professional aspirations.

Please contact Diane Robson at Diane.Robson@unt.edu with your name if you are interested.

For those of you on the fence about running for Treasurer, I wanted to offer some additional information I hope will help you decide to run.

Being a round table Treasurer offers one a chance to gain solid experience in fiscal management and budgeting for a sizable organization, in forecasting, and in working with other units within ALA.

The role of the Treasurer is to develop the round table budget for approval by the GameRT board; manage the funds as needed during the year; serve as the financial clearinghouse for GameRT funds including coordinating the payment of bills and monitoring funds spent and encumbered so that the GameRT budget is followed; trains the incoming Treasurer-Elect. The Treasurer works closely with the GameRT ALA Liaison to obtain budget reports and other financial data. The Treasurer works with the assigned liaison from the ALA Budget Analysis & Review Committee (BARC).

For those who might be concerned about Treasurer responsibilities, ALA has a number of resources to help you with this process. Of particular interest are the Financial Learning Series webcasts created by BARC in 2012:

I know this is well past the deadline of 1/4, but if a treasurer is still needed, I will volunteer.
