It's that time of year again - time to begin preparing for ALA's second annual National Gaming Day. This year's event will take place on Saturday, November 14.

Check out the new blog at http://ngd.ala.org, but more importantly, register your library now. We're lucky enough to be offering free game donations again, and this time the offers include academic and school libraries, as well as publics. This is only for the first 1,000 libraries, though, so act fast. Head over to http://bit.ly/ngd2009 to register now!

We'll also be doing videogame tournaments again, thanks to Eli Neiburger at the Ann Arbor (MI) District Library.

More on the blog soon. LMK if you have further questions at this point.

    Game on!
    Jenny

    Hello,

Our library is very happy to be participating in National Gaming Day @ your library!  I am wondering when we can be expecting the games offered through registration for NGD.

Also, I know that we signed up to receive "wits and wagers", but I read that Hasbro will also be donating games.  Is there a separate registration to be eligible for those games, or will we receive the games simply by being registered with NGD?

    Thanks for your help!

    Mike

    Hi, Mike --

Glad to hear you're participating in NGD2009! For the donated games you requested (LetterJAM!, Say Anything, Wits & Wagers), we're going to close registration for those on October 21 in order to try to get the games to libraries around November 1.

You're correct that Hasbro is also offering a separate donation, but there's no extra registration for those games (Monopoly Deal, Pictureka! -the card version-, Scrabble Slam). Hasbro will be shipping one copy of each game to every public library in the country. We don't have details about the shipping date yet, but obviously their intent will be to get them to you before November 13.

To be completely clear, public libraries will receive the Hasbro games regardless of whether they're registered for NGD or not. However, registering gets your location listed on the national map (which is where we're pointing the public and reporters) and allows you to request the additional three games (before October 21). Other types of libraries can register for the three additional games but won't get the Hasbro ones.

Hope this helps explain it all -
    Jenny
