Each year, the GameRT holds an evening of gaming and learning entitled ALAPlay. This year, we will be adding titles to ALA's collection of games. I wanted to share with the group the list of titles that we are looking to add to the list and welcome any suggestions from the community for other titles to consider as we have a little room on the list to add.

The games we are looking to add generally are shorter in length and higher in accessibility to allow for easy entry and sampling by those coming to the event. Many of us, myself included, love big, meaty games with teeth, but they don't work for the venue and are not the best use of funds for the game library. For those titles, we welcome people to bring them along to the event and serve as host for that game.

Here is our current list of game we plan on buying:

1x Cheaty Mages - Fast, fun microgame from Japan put out by AEG in their Big in Japan Line

1x Dixit - Going with the base game as it has storage for other decks which we can pick up.

1x Space Cadets Dice Duel - after writing up Escape, I realized that the soundtrack is not going to work well in the space and that Dice Duel captures much of the same elements without the issues of making sure the soundtrack is heard.

1x Forbidden Desert - The evolution of the refinement of Pandemic. Good Co-op.

1x Going, Going, Gone! - Scott's design for library/game groups in mind. Fast, Frantic Auctions.

2x Hanabi - SdJ winner and great deductive co-op.

2x Love Letter - The micro that blew up micros

1x Pick a Pig - Cute, fast card game.

2x Rampage - massive destructive monster mayhem

1x Smash up and each expansion - Deck Shuffling fun

1x Resistance Avalon - the components in this version make play easier to track

1x Timeline Diversity - easy to play history date game

2x One Night Werewolf - Refines werewolf into a single night for fast, large group play.

2x Loupin Louie Outstanding and very accessible children's game. #1 Kids game on BGG for quite a while.

Yes to Smash Up!  So much fun.

    Other suggestions:

    • SuperFight!
    • Velociraptor! Cannibalism!
    • Citadels
    • King of Tokyo
    • Some newer Magic: the Gathering introductory pre-con decks?
    • Ascension (deckbuilding game in the vein of Dominion, but I feel like it is a lot easier to learn)
    • Bang! and/or Samurai Sword (pretty much the same game, but one is Wild West and one is Feudal Japan)
    • Star Wars: The Card Game
    • Pandemic
    • Stratego.  Classic game.
    • Zombies!!!  (fantastic fun. Get a base set and any expansions, except for the Medieval one - it is NOT good).
    • Munchkins.  (fun, quick, irreverent)
    • Killer Bunnies.  (see Munchkins)
    • Fluxx.  (Quick card game, like Uno on crack.  Lots of fun variants, including the Zombies one (my favorite)).

A lot of these games are quick to learn and play, if someone involved knows how to play already.  Starting from scratch, however, can make them take longer.

If you haven't made the purchase yet, here are a few more suggestions:

    • No Thanks! (quick, small, and addictive)
    • Skull/Skull & Roses (pure bluffing, easy to learn, beautiful artwork)
    • For Sale (a hit with every new player I've introduced it to)
    • Ticket to Ride (because Ticket to Ride)
    • Qwirkle
    • Formula D (easy to grasp, awesome theme, elegant play)

And I second King of Tokyo as an essential addition.

This will be my first ALA Annual, so I am really looking forward to the ALA Play session.
