National Gaming Day 2011 / Success and challenges

  • 1.  National Gaming Day 2011 / Success and challenges

I am interested in everyone's National Gaming Day 2011. I am at an academic institution and we held our 2nd NGD this year. We had a great crowd that seemed to have a great time.

Our event takes over the first floor of the main library with 2 Wiis, 2 Xbox 360s, 2 Xbox 360s with Kinect, 1 PS3 with Rockband 3, 2PS3s and lots of boardgames. Our event included a forum with space for information tables that one library department (Media Library), 2 faculty members with gaming research, and 2 student groups (Anime club and Game Development) used.

The event was a success in that we did have a big happy crowd of about 500 people during our 6 hour event. Our biggest challenge is getting more faculty and corporations to participate in the educational aspect of our event.

I need advice on how to get corporations, specifically gaming companies, to come to our events and either showcase new games or speak about the industry to students interested in being game designers, programmers, etc. How early do you start contacting people for your event?

    Thanks,
