GAMERT (Gaming) Round Table

The mission of the Games and Gaming Round Table is to provide the following:
  • A forum for the exchange of ideas and concerns surrounding games in libraries;
  • Resources to the library community to support the building and maintaining of library game collections;
  • A force for initiating and supporting game programming in libraries;
  • Create an awareness of, and need for, the support of the value of gaming and play in libraries, schools, and related learning communities.
  • Create an awareness of the value of games and gaming in library outreach and community engagement plans.
  • A professional and social forum for networking among librarians and non-librarians interested in games and gaming.

    Howdy.


    I am very excited for this year's annual conference. Not only has the GameRT been growing and doing a number of amazing things, but our presence and outreach at the conferences has been fantastic. Last year, ALAPlay had an impressive turnout with over 300 people coming down to explore gaming opportunities and play. We had Mayfair Games, Eagle Gryphon Games, SET Enterprises and Paizo on hand running demos of games and talking with librarians about gaming resources.


    But that is only one night and many people can not make it to ALAPlay. We are missing a large number of conference goers and so ALAPlay is coming to the exhibit floor. We will have a gaming lounge on the exhibit floor that will play host to open gaming from the GameRT's Game Library, demos from publishers exhibiting at Annual (I have a few great names lined up but more on that later), and sharing/poster sessions.


    I am chairing a committee to work on putting all of this together. If you have an interest in helping out, in re-imagining what the exhibition floor looks like... what it can be, then please join in.

    I'd like to at least be in on the discussion, and actively help if I can. I shook my fist at the heavens when I realized prior commitments would keep me away from ALAPlay in Vegas. =)

    Outstanding! Thanks for all of the offering of help. I believe Jenny has added most, if not all of you to the Lounge Committee. I posted an initial thoughts posting there, so take a minute to take a look and share your thoughts!
