Her experience includes employment as a contractor in support of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) / Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) / Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) as a Reports Officer/Editor, an Intelligence Analyst and Targeting Analyst. In addition to federal service she was a Library Consultant for the National Asian and Pacific Islander Families Against Substance Abuse (NAPAFASA); and a branch manager for both Long Beach Public Library and the County of Los Angeles Public Library. She has worked in the Law Enforcement Library at the California Department f Justice, the Resource Center Library at the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, and in the Law Library at the California Legislative Counsel Bureau. In 2008 she served in Afghanistan as an Individual Augmentee (IA) Analyst/Embedded Team Trainer (ETT). While in Afghanistan she volunteered as the Forward Operating Base (FOB) librarian, in addition to her assigned duties, and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM) and the Department of Defense (DoD)/National Organization for Mexican American Rights (NOMAR) award for significant contribution to the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT). Virginia is a 2010 Library Journal “Mover and Shaker”, was inducted as a Chief Petty Officer in 2010. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature with a minor in Communications from California State University Dominguez Hills, and a Master of Arts in Information Resources and Library from the University of Arizona as a Knowledge River Scholar. She holds a black belt in the traditional martial art, Soo Bahk Do, and currently rides a 2009 Harley Davidson 1200 Custom Sportster.
