Online Doc Suggestions from alctsleaders listserv on New Leaders Orientation needs (November 2009)

by Melinda Flannery on Mon, Dec 21, 2009 at 03:42 pm

Hints and tips about how to find, contact, and appoint individuals, and then how to mentor and support them in their new roles so that they can grow professionally and be successful leaders themselves.

List of things you should know/do as IG chair, as program chair, etc.  What meetings do you need to attend?  What deadlines do you need to meet?

Q Calendar for planning purposes e.g. by "mid-[month]" preliminary program proposals to the Program Committee, "two(?) weeks after" annual and mid-winter we need to have reports sent in, etc.

A Current calendar is at:  http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/alcts/about/governance/org/cmtes/cmte_....  Put up in 2007, should be reviewed for accuracy and completeness.  Please comment on current state.

Obvious links to where "forms" (or whatever such things are called in Web 2.0) are located

"Bylaws for beginners"  including the constitution of the section executive committees and the Board, the differences between committees and IGs, and parliamentary procedure. (2)

"Panel" or focus group that is representative of the Division and the various Institution types, to help new leaders target area expertise within the organization that is representative of the IG or committee charge they are working on.

Structure of ALCTS and how it functions, who to contact (e.g. room reservations).  Publicizing w/i the association:  meetings, presentations/publications, mandatory reports.

YouTube video (I'm featuring something animated) that demonstrates how ideas flow upward for approval at various levels/committees of ALCTS, how responses get conveyed.  (Actually, an acting class could have a good time with that idea.)

Publication possibilities through ALCTS for all ALCTS Leaders? In the past, the editors of LRTS, ANO, and the ALCTS Papers Series all three participated in New Leader orientation programs (e.g. right of first refusal).

Information about Connect and how others are using it (3)

Basics of the web stuff - how to keep your group's web page updated; can someone do it for us, or do we have to do it ourselves? (2)

Webinar that could be recorded and posted to the web site (staff suggestion; referral to Keri Cascio)
