Presentations from Joint CC:DA/SAC Meeting at ALA Annual 2011, New Orleans

CC:DA and SAC held a joint meeting in New Orleans to discuss the treatment of “subject” in the Functional Requirements models and subject entities  in RDA.  Presentation materials are available on the CC:DA web site (linked below) and in ALA Connect.

John Attig gave a presentation on “Subject entities and relationships in RDA” [http://www.libraries.psu.edu/tas/jca/ccda/docs/rda-subjects.pdf] and discussed the JSC perspective on the “placeholder” chapters in RDA: why the chapters are empty and what they will and won’t contain.  Gordon Dunsire presented on “Subjects in the FR family” [http://www.libraries.psu.edu/tas/jca/ccda/docs/FRSubjects.pdf].  Topics included the Functional Requirements and Resource Description Framework; semantics and inferencing; treatment of “subject” in each of the FR models; and reconciling the models.

The presentations were followed by a discussion of the LC Discussion Paper on Group 3 entities and “subject” (6JSC/LC Rep/3: Group 3 entities and “subject”) [http://www.rda-jsc.org/docs/6JSC-LC-rep-3.pdf]
