ANSS/RRBC Peer Review Practice Draft

The ALA/ACRL/ANSS Resource Review & Bibliography Committee has practiced peer review of the resource review articles published in ANSS Currents in the Fall & Spring issues. The suggestions below describe the process for future use and practice.

Ideally, the process looks something like this:

  • Each review article topic is coordinated within the committee.

  • After author drafts article, the author shares with the RRB Committee for review

    • Fall: The draft is shared with committee members by September 1.

    • Spring: The draft is shared with committee members by February, week 4.

    • Coordinate with Publications Committee to set deadlines for receiving reviews.

  • Committee members offer suggestions and corrections by 2nd week in September/4th week in February.

    • General comments should use the guidelines linked above

    • Content comments should rely on subject and content expertise

    • Other comments rely on collegial context

    • Sometimes these can be extensive rewrites

  • Author reviews and finalizes the article, then returns a final draft to the committee

  • Final Review: Committee responds accordingly

  • Author/RRB Committee Chair forwards the article to ANSS Currents’ editor for final editing and publication

    • Submit to ANSS Currents September 12-15/March 28-31

Reviews and analyzes the current state of bibliographic control of publications in anthropology and sociology. It identifies specific areas needing improved bibliographic control and communicates these needs to publishers. The committee also disseminates information about the bibliography of these fields to the section membership. The primary product of the committee is reviews of indexes and abstracts (print and electronic), which are published in Currents first and then published on ANSSWeb.
