    POSITION DESCRIPTION:


    The Overnight Manager will manage a unit of Melville Library which is open 24 hours, four days a week, in the late night (12:00 am) to early morning (8:00 a.m.) hours. The incumbent will supervise two part time and/or student assistants and graduate students who staff the library during overnight hours. The incumbent will also work the same late night and early morning schedules and some limited day working hours in order to keep in contact with library administration and other library units. S/he will be responsible for all aspects of managing the Library during overnight hours and for providing reference services to library users.


    The incumbent will be expected to resolve difficult patron, security and emergency issues/situations/problems occurring during the overnight hours and will serve as a liaison with the campus police. S/he will be responsible for developing, assigning and maintaining the overnight shift schedules in order to ensure that there is adequate staff coverage during overnight hours of operation and coordinate with the Evening/Weekend Team Manager, as well as with other Library Department heads to ensure coverage in the Libraries. The incumbent will be expected to schedule him/herself as part of the team coverage.


    QUALIFICATIONS:


    REQUIRED:


     



    • Bachelor’s Degree in Management, Hospitality or a related field.

    • In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree, a combination of directly related full time experience and/or education totaling four years may be considered.

    • Two years of full time customer service or related experience providing service to patrons/customers.

    • Previous supervisory experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.


     


    PREFERRED:


    Experience in library public (customer) service.


    Previous security related experience.


    Experience dealing with College or University student populations.
