Yesterday afternoon, the ACRL Universal Accessibility Interest Group (UAIG) held a virtual meeting. The virtual meeting had about 15 attendees.
If you attended the virtual meeting, please take a short 5 minute online survey. This will help with compiling names of attendees and getting feedback about the virtual meeting. We would appreciate your responses by Monday, June 22, 2015.
The survey is available through SurveyMonkey at the link below. If you experience problems accessing the survey, or have questions, please contact John Siegel, current UAIG convener – jxsiegel@ualr.edu.
Minutes of the virtual meeting will be forthcoming, but here are some highlights:
UAIG and other accessibility resources were briefly discussed.
All are invited to join the UNIACCESS e-mail list. You do not need to be a UAIG member to subscribe.
The discussion is not limited to academic libraries.
To join the UNIACCESS e-mail list, please visit http://lists.ala.org/sympa/info/uniaccess.
If you do not already have an account for ALA Electronic Discussion Lists, you will need to create one. Use the First login? link, or if you already have an account, sign in with your email address and password.
If you experience problems subscribing to UNIACCESS, please contact John Siegel – jxsiegel@ualr.edu.
The UAIG also has a space on ALA Connect – http://connect.ala.org/node/75381.
You need to be an ALA member, but not a member of the UAIG.
At the top of the page, in the right-hand corner, select the Login link and sign in with your ALA username and password.
Once you are logged in, select the Follow this Group link toward the top of the page.
If you experience problems, please contact John Siegel – jxsiegel@ualr.edu
Libraries for Universal Accessibility (LUA) – http://uniaccessig.org/lua
LUA is not limited to accessibility in academic libraries.
There is a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) repository available through the LUA site. Use the VPAT Repository link in the top bar of the homepage. If you would like to contribute to the VPAT Repository or have questions, please contact Laura DeLancey, incoming UAIG convener – laura.delancey@wku.edu
Contributions and postings to the LUA site are encouraged. Use the Learn More button in the middle of the page.
ARL (Association of Research Libraries) Web Accessibility Toolkit-- http://accessibility.arl.org/
A blog and Google Group on accessibility were recently introduced.
If you are interested in contributing a blog post, e-mail accessibility@arl.org
To join the Google Group, please request access through this link: https://groups.google.com/a/arl.org/d/forum/accessibility-community
Accessibility of Google Groups was unknown, so please let ARL and UAIG know if there are issues.
A brief introduction of Talking Communities (TC), an accessibility product for web conferencing, was given by representatives of TC.
TC reps were invited because the UAIG is testing out web conferencing tools that will help with accessibility and enhance participation in virtual meetings.
For more information on Talking Communities (TC), visit http://www.talkingcommunities.com
The TC reps would be more than happy to answer questions. Contact Lorn at lorn@talkingcommunities.com
Attendees shared a variety of accessibility happenings and projects they are working on at the end of the meeting.
There were lots of good resources shared! More details will follow in the minutes.
