At this point it is unlikely that I will be able to attend annual.

I will not be at annual in Las Vegas and therefore will not be able to attend the SIG meeting. We will need to elect a new chair. Will someone be able to take minutes and share the meeting conversation. Thank you.

Do you have an agenda for the meeting?

Thank you for being willing to take minutes.  As far as an agenda, there are a couple of things that can be discussed:

  1. mentoring (Habit of Mind initiative that I had posted and other initiatives)
  2. collaboration with the Student SIG
  3. election of chair
  4. how to increase involvement (are we addressing the needs and interests of our members? what do they really want in order to become more involved?)

I'm thinking of you and wishing you a great conference.

Irene and I have worked hard to get the SIG up and running the last 3 years.  I will chair the meeting; however, I will not be there on time.  Cathie, if you can start, I will finish up.  How does that sound?  I hope those reading this will decide to chair for the next year to keep the ball rolling.

Were you able to meet at the conference?

Ann Marie Pipkin's picture

We did meet;however, I only got to stay for about 20 minutes.  My schedule was crazy and the distance from the hotel to the conference center although right next door was far from close.I don't know what business was accomplished as they were doing introductions.

I couldn't make it -- had a conflict so I don't know who was there.

I had hoped to go, but other priorities intervened. Did anyone take notes? I'd love to know who was there and what was discussed. I hope to be able to be more involved in the future.

I thought I sent this yesterday but it doesn't appear to have gone thru so I'll try again. One other thought first. When we started several of us agreed to try to contact non-renewing members.  I only ever got one list to contact and I didn't have much success.  Was their a decision to discontinue this effort?

Hi,

I attended the meeting and we went thru the agenda you sent.  We talked about mentoring new librarians and I offered to post a request to lmnet to see what kinds of help they would welcome. Unfortunately things have been a little crazy since I got back and I have not done that.  However as I have thought about it I'm not sure how helpful that would be.  That LISTSERV provides answers to all sorts of professional questions and it's free, no expensive memberships involved. I would still be willing to post something if you think it would be worthwhile.  By the time we got to electing a new chair there weren't too many people left and none of us was willing to take on the job.  I think we have a problem with identifying our purpose and attracting more active sig members.  We seem to be drifting. Sorry to be so pessimistic.
