Fifth Annual Collection Management & Research Forum

The Publications Committee of the Collection Management Section of ALCTS is sponsoring the Fifth Annual Collection Management & Development Research Forum (formerly known as the Emerging Research in Collection Management & Development Forum) at the 2014 American Library Association Annual Conference in Las Vegas. This year’s featured speakers are:

Denise Weldon-Siviy, Collections Associate, and Amy Ward, Director of Technical Services, from Gettysburg College. Siviy and Ward will discuss their work to develop a sustainable, permanent assessment process to maintain shelf capacity equilibrium without an adverse effect on librarian time management. They endeavored to develop a process that would result in a net-zero growth scenario while producing a higher-quality collection.

Cheri Duncan, Director, Acquisitions & Collecti
ons, from James Madison University. Duncan will discuss a project she undertook with Genya O’Gara, Director, Collections, to develop a holistic approach to collection development and assessment. Their ultimate goal is to develop a flexible assessment rubric that will include a suite of tools for more consistently evaluating and better expressing a holistic value of their collections.

The speakers will briefly present their work and then welcome questions and ideas from attendees.

The forum will be held in the Las Vegas Convention Center, N237, on Sunday, June 29, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
