Join the Digital Curation Interest Group for "Teaching Students to Document Empirical Research: A Protocol for Documenting Data Management and Analysis", a presentation by Richard Ball, Associate Professor of Economics and Norm Medeiros, Associate Librarian, Haverford College.
Abstract: "This presentation will describe a protocol we have developed for teaching students conducting empirical research to document their work in such a way that their results are completely reproducible and verifiable. The protocol prescribes the creation and organization of a set of data, command, and metadata files, and is guided by the principle that an independent researcher, using only the data and information contained in these files, should be able to replicate every step of the data management and analysis. We will demonstrate how these files are described, preserved, and made accessible for replication by third-parties."
This 60 minute presentation will be followed by a 30 minute business meeting.
