ALA LLAMA BES Architecture for Public Library Program P13 "The Library as Culture House"
8:30 am to 10:30 pm, US/Central
In response to a world that is increasingly interconnected, and at the same time, limited in its resources, libraries are being combined with complementary, or even seemingly disparate, functions. As new, “culture house”, models for sharing resources and space emerge, libraries have the opportunity to explore new programming, planning and operational considerations. These new facility models allow institutions to create buildings that go beyond their original function, enabling new kinds of funding streams, partnerships and programs. As cultural hubs, they have the potential to change the way people live and learn in their environment, and expanded the role and contribution of the library to the surrounding campus or community.
