Hi, all –

ALA will have a 10’ x 20’ booth at the upcoming AASL conference in Columbus, OH on 11/5/2015 - 11/8/2015.  ALA will pay for the space and all divisions are invited to participate. This helps present the best possible value proposition.  There is no charge to your division.

Hi,  FY16 is almost upon us.

So that ALA Membership can best support what your division wants to do regarding expanding Engage (and related "stuff") to create an Engage family look across the divisions, please complete the attached form so that I know how you want to proceed, when you want to proceed, etc. The attached form allows for complete flexibility.

Let me know what questions you have.

Thanks, Ron J

Discussion Recommendations: Revisions to ALA Renewal Form

by Liz Markel (staff) on Tue, Jul 17, 2012 at 04:47 pm

Dan and I have reviewed both the current renewal form and some samples from other membership-based organizations (AARP, National Geographic, Society for Human Resource Management, and a few others), and we would like to make the following recommendations for revising ALA's renewal form.

We hope that the suggestions below will help bridge the gap between "bill" and "marketing tool". Please take a moment to review the sample images and the recommendations prior to tomorrow's meeting.

We hope that the suggestions below will help bridge the gap between "bill" and "marketing tool". Please take a moment to review the sample images and the recommendations prior to tomorrow's meeting.

Samples we liked and why (see attached image files):

  • ASTD: Looks professional with bold visuals, e.g. boxes at top of page clearly identifying key membership and renewal info. Use of two colors, especially navy blue instead of black, is pleasing to the eye.
  • Illinois CPA Society: Design is clean and modern.
  • Sam's Club: Includes easy-to-understand icons. Organization's social media info is included. Size of renewal notice (11x14?) is a plus. Large, legible quote from Sam's Club member on reverse is compelling, relevant and prominent.

Recommendations:

  • Incorporate graphical elements into renewal form layout to modernize appearance, but also maintain cleanliness of layout. Reduce overall amount of text, including possibly eliminating letter from membership director.
  • Make text that is included more "high impact": larger, easier to read, direct and succinct in its persuasiveness.
  • Maintain content related to "Reasons to Join", but simplify to a single item. Include clean vanity URL that will point to a landing page with a complete but succinct list of reasons to join. Page content can be updated regularly with no impact on printed mailpiece.
  • For division/RT memberships that appear on bill, allow a second line of text underneath item for tag line and vanity URL that will point to a landing page where divisions can make the case for maintaining membership. Page content can be updated regularly with no impact on printed mailpiece.
  • Add QR code to renewal envelope; display message or vanity URL when code is scanned that points to a landing page with relevant information.
