    Another meeting of interest:

The United States Board on Books for Young People will meet on Friday  evening, January 20 at 8pm at the ALA Midwinter Conference, Dallas Convention Center, rm c149. The meeting will feature a talk by Nick Lake, author of In Darkness. Set in Haiti, In Darkness tells the story of Shorty, a boy trapped in a  collapsed building in Port au Prince. Enveloped in darkness, Shorty relives the brief life that brought him at the age of 14 to be in the hospital with a gunshot wound. Interwoven with his  story is that of Toussaint L´Ouverture, the revolutionary black leader  of Haiti who led the slave revolt in the 1790s. Nick Lake is a British  children´s book editor and writer who has been fascinated by Haitian culture since working on his Master´s Degree in Linguistics. His talk will be followed by a reception sponsored by Bloomsbury.

Books winning recognition on the Outstanding International Books list will be presented.
