Collection Evaluation and Assessment Interest Group

Sunday, January 22, 2012
1:30 pm to 3:30 pm, US/Central

You are invited to participate in a discussion of tools and techniques utilized to evaluate library collections.
There will be two presentations and plenty of time for questions and discussion.

Chan Li will describe a new value-based strategy used by the California Digital Library for the UC Libraries which involves using objective metrics to compare the value of scholarly journals, establish price containment targets, and identify titles to consider for potential cancellation. A key aspect of this new methodology is the use of a Weighted Value Algorithm to assess multiple vectors of value for each journal title under review.
Ruth Fischer will use examples from libraries to describe how the services and tools developed by SCS can assist librarians to draw down large collections of under-used print monographs when faced with limited space.
