SRRT (Social Responsibilities Round Table)

last person joined: 2 days ago

The Social Responsibilities Round Table works to make ALA more democratic and to establish progressive priorities not only for the Association, but also for the entire profession. Concern for human and economic rights was an important element in the founding of SRRT and remains an urgent concern today. SRRT believes that libraries and librarians must recognize and help solve social problems and inequities in order to carry out their mandate to work for the common good and bolster democracy.

    Hello fellow SRRT members!

I am one of your SRRT Action Councilors. The deadline for running for SRRT Action Council is quickly approaching, and I'm writing to encourage you to run for Action Council! Being on SRRT Action Council is a wonderful experience. As a fairly new librarian, I wasn't sure if I would be qualified to run. After sitting in on one of the meetings, I realized that Action Council is full of intelligent, committed and friendly people who are working hard to promote social responsibility in ALA. It's interesting and worthwhile work and a great way to learn about ALA as an organization.

This year, we're looking for three SRRT members to run for Action Council. You'll be elected for the 2011-2014 term, meaning you'll start attending ALA for Midwinter in January 2012. See the SRRT page for more info on your responsibilities: http://www.libr.org/srrt/jobdescriptions.html#atlarge

Please contact me if you have any questions about being new to Action Council and see the attached document for instructions on how to run. Now get out there and make a change!

    Jaime Corris Hammond

At-Large Member of SRRT Action Council 2009-2012
