Cynthia:IS anything happening? I don't see or hear anything.

  Katie Gibson:Nothing yet.

Katie Gibson:We'll get started in about half an hour

Ed Rock, Membership Committee Member:Hi, I do hear.

Steven Bell:Hi everyone. Thanks for joining us today.

Ed Rock, Membership Committee Member:My mic is ready if needed.

Steven Bell:@katie or ed - should we be seeing the slides with quotes that MJP prepared?

Ed Rock, Membership Committee Member:Yes, I thouht so...

Steven Bell:just the "will begin shortly" slide

  Samantha:yes

Katie Gibson:presenters will see something different I think

  Katie Gibson:ah there they go

Steven Bell:now seeing slides with quotes

  Ed Rock, Membership Committee Member:Yes!

Ed Rock, Membership Committee Member:I'm good. Thnx.

Steven Bell:Hi everyone. Thanks for joining us today. Glad that you are eager to get engaged with ACRL.

  Ed Rock, Membership Committee Member:http://www.ala.org/acrl/aboutacrl/directoryofleadership

  Ed Rock, Membership Committee Member:http://crln.acrl.org/content/77/11/543.full

Ed Rock, Membership Committee Member:Committees: http://www.ala.org/acrl/aboutacrl/directoryofleadership/committees

Ed Rock, Membership Committee Member:Volunteer Form: http://www.ala.org/acrl/membership/volunteer/volunteer

Steven Bell:Important advice - make it known that you have a passion for the work of the committee - and how you can contribute

Katie Gibson:ACRL has an open meeting policy. If the meeting is not an award jury or listed as private, you can attend without being a member

Steven Bell:That applies to virtual meetings to but I believe you need to inform the chair that you want to attend the virtual meeting so that can be arranged

Leni:I apologize I can't stay for the full meeting. Have a great session! I look forward to reviewing the slides.

Steven Bell:Here's a good article on 12 different ways to get engaged with ACRLhttp://www.ala.org/acrl/getinvolved

Steven Bell:Just FYI - those 34 division level committees that Erin discussed are created by the ACRL Board to do the work of the Board.

  Ed Rock, Membership Committee Member:Sections:http://www.ala.org/acrl/aboutacrl/directoryofleadership/sections

Soo-yeon Hwang:What's the difference between College Libraries Section and University Libraries Section??

Steven Bell:Today's program is organized by the ACRL membership committee - which is a division level committee

Steven Bell:@Soo-yeon. They are both ACRL sections. Just targeting different members based on your interests - be it college level or university level. I work at a research university so I'd be more interested in the ULS

Angie:is there any way to determine which committees require conference attendance?

Steven Bell:But I follow CLS too - which happens to be a much more active group with respect to their discussion list

  Soo-yeon Hwang:Thank you

Angie:Thank you ...you just answered my question! :)

Steven Bell:@Angie - it could be listed on the ACRL website where the committees are described but when in doubt check with the current chair - also listed on the ACRL site

  Angie:thanks!

Steven Bell:But if membership is your thing - most of the ACRL sections also have a membership committee that focuses on their own target population

Ed Rock, Membership Committee Member:Discussion Groups:http://www.ala.org/acrl/aboutacrl/directoryofleadership/discussiongroups/dgs

Melissa Randall:Are these the Interest groups?

Katie Gibson:Discussion Groups are a separate thing

Melissa Randall:Okay, thanks - still a bit confused.

Katie Gibson:But they are kind of similar in that they discuss current issues

Katie Gibson:Interest groups are a little more formal

Katie Gibson:he'll talk about those next

  Melissa Randall:Great!

Katie Gibson:Discussion groups are almost all conversation based. As Steven said, "what's happening at your place about this" is very common

Ed Rock, Membership Committee Member:Interest Groups:http://www.ala.org/acrl/aboutacrl/directoryofleadership/interestgroups/igs

Katie Gibson:That is basically an annual report that goes to ACRL

  Ed Rock, Membership Committee Member:Evaluation:https://miamioh.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0cGvs5fDTEK8Y73

  Melissa Randall:Thank you very much!

Aaron Bowen:Thank you all for putting this discussion on -- highly informative!

  Olivia Hattan-Edwards:Thank you all!

  Melissa Johnson:thank you. very helpful

  Carolyn:Thank you for the information.

Chelsea:Very useful! I am still wondering how roundtables fit into all of this...

Judy Opdahl:Thank you for this information :)

Afra:Do I need to be in the U.S. to volunteer on a committee? I am an ACRL member currently residing in Canada.

Soo-yeon Hwang:Is it possible to submit a volunteer form for division AND interest group? Or is it either or?

Chelsea:I think they may be more ALA, you're right.

Aaron Bowen:Will you all e-mail out a link to the recording of this discussion?

  Soo-yeon Hwang:And section, too...

kalan:Quick question (sorry i'm multitasking -- reclassing deweys while listening).  Is it true we can submit the volunteer form more than once and potentially refine it for the specific position volunteered for?

  Chelsea:Okay, thanks

  Soo-yeon Hwang:How about sections?

Melissa Randall:And look for them on ALA Connect (interest groups)

Chelsea:But you do need to sign up for listservs for interest groups and discussion groups beyond just checking the box when you register?

Afra:Glad to hear it. Thank you!

Elois Sharpe*:Yes I'll send you the link Katie after this meeting

  Aaron Bowen:Cool, thank you.

  kalan:ah!  thanks!

Soo-yeon Hwang:So you have to submit a separate form for divisions and sections?

Katie Gibson:@Chelsea Yes, you do that separately, we can't automatically add people to listservs

Steven Bell:@soo-yeon - yes same thing for section committees you need to formally volunteer

  Soo-yeon Hwang:Thank you

Steven Bell:A nd for discussion groups you just subscribe to the discussion list - that's it

  kalan:Thanks!

  Ed Rock, Membership Committee Member:Evaluation:https://miamioh.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0cGvs5fDTEK8Y73

Melissa Randall:Thanks so much for this - very helpful (yes I did my eval :) )

  Afra:Thank you all!

  Karen R.:Thank you!

  Ayaba Logan:Thank you!!
