The minutes from the ALA Annual Conference were approved. Ericka offered to take minutes.

Brian gave an update on the ACRL/ASEE/EBSS/STS joint scholarly communication survey communication needs and interests of members. Julie Speer at Virginia Tech is the PI, and she is working to get IRB approval at VT. Brian will be a Co-PI, along with ASEE and STS division chairs. The survey is in final form and is ready for distribution. There are some technical problems with the Co-PIs getting access to the Virginia Tech IRB website that need to be worked out before the survey can be submitted for approval.

The Committee reviewed the survey. Suggested changes made during the meeting at Annual have been incorporated in the survey. No additional changes were suggested. A discussion of how best to disseminate the survey resulted in the following suggestions: allow a small window of time for response, release of the survey might work well around Midwinter or at the beginning of the semester, send survey announcement via EBSS listserv and other avenues (possibly Facebook and email from EBSS committee chairs), email reminders on different days of the week, and send out initial email announcement of survey earlier in the week.

Discussion of Charge. There was general agreement that the charge is well formed and provides the Committee with flexibility to determine future projects.

Discussion of future projects. In addition to working with the survey responses, the Committee discussed the possibility of working with other EBSS committees to hold webinar discussions of SC issues. A Hot Topics session for SC issues was another suggestion.

Incoming Chair. Brian plans to step down as Chair after ALA Annual. Brian encouraged Committee members to let him know if they are interested in becoming Chair. Dana reminded Committee members to fill out the appointment form if their term is expiring and they are interested in continuing on the SC Committee or working on another committee. Dana also welcomed Committee members to suggest other EBSS members who might be a good fit for the SC Committee Chair position.

Next Steps: Brian will communicate with Julie Speer of STS and other colleagues involved with the survey regarding the committee’s views on distribution. Brian will let Scott Collard know that the committee charge does not need to be revised. The committee will explore possible ideas for a webinar or Hot Topics discussion.

The meeting adjourned at 11:47am CTS.
