Library Boing Boing Community

Listed in:

Proposed Mission:

To bring librarians and Boing Boing readers (aka, Happy Mutants) together to generate support for and raise interest in libraries via projects at local libraries.

Proposed Goals:

  • Help find and propose content about libraries that could be posted to Boing Boing.
  • Provide active ways for Happy Mutants to support and get involved with their local libraries (eg, toolkits, best practices, ideas for local projects).
  • Create dynamic programming at library conferences that Library Boing Boingers can then take outside of the library community to promote libraries (eg, SxSW, local community events, etc.).
  • Work together to help Happy Mutants advance our shared interests (eg, copyright reform, net neutrality, game culture, digital divide issues, open government, etc.).
  • Coordinate an international community of librarians working with their own Happy Mutant groups.

DiscussionBoing Boing Loves Libraries (Again)

Just wanted to make sure everyone sees the Cory Doctorow's post on Boing Boing today, Cheapskates love Libraries (it's mutual). Of course, I especially love the last paragraph.

DiscussionHow to submit a story for Boing Boing

To make it easier for us to track each idea or submission as it comes in, please post your ideas and/or write-ups as new discussions in the Boing Boing story ideas forum. I think that will also make it easier to tell which comments go with which stories.

For full write-ups, you can also email them to me at jlevine [at] ala.org or to Tina Coleman at ccoleman [at] ala.org.

Here's the template for what we need as a write-up that can be submitted directly to Boing Boing.

DiscussionTake the school petition viral?

Someone in the Think Tank on FB suggested doing something viral for the school petition, like a Hey Girl or a video. Anyone have any skillz or capacity to do this? We still need 6000 signatures.

Hey all.  Requesting help, input, and general enthusiasm!

PollFor use outside of ALA, we need a name to brand our little Happy Mutant Collective...We'd like to have a name that is evocative, interesting, and speaks to our general awesomeness. It will likely also drive our logo/image. Choose one!

PostALA Midwinter Notes

Group met at 9:00am in Dallas Conference Center Uncommons

Jason Griffey introduced the group.  Lots of crossover between Tech world and library world, this is a good opportunity to strengthen.  BoingBoing has done a great job about posting calls to actions on closing libraries.  We want to start posting content that shows the positive side of library news.  Highlight reasons why you should go to and support your library.

DiscussionStory ideas - sketches, posts, images, links

Hello Happy Mutants!

In talking about LBB, one of the big goals is to use Boing Boing proper as a publishing platform for Important Library Stuffs. If you're a part of this group, you probably have a good idea what it is that BB is about. Come January, I think we should aim at a minimum of a post a week about library issues hitting the front page of BB.
