Designing and Facilitating Learning Experiences that Make a Difference: The Power of Active Experiential Learning (ALA Annual Preconference)by Crystal Schimpf on Wed, May 11, 2016 at 07:06 pm
LearnRT is sponsoring a preconference at ALA Annual in Orlando taking place on Friday, June 24 (8:30AM-12:00PM):
Designing and Facilitating Learning Experiences that Make a Difference: The Power of Active Experiential Learning
Are you tired of "Sage on the Stage" presentations and trainings? Have you been to presentation after presentation that didn't result in anyone --including you --actually doing something different? That's because the kind of deep learning that leads to real change happens when we make meaning from our own experience and then design a plan to apply our new understanding to real life situations. Come to this highly engaging program and experience for yourself the power -- and fun -- of active, experiential learning.
This workshop will be facilitated by Peter Bromberg and Sharon Morris
This is a ticketed event and pre-registration is recommended. Advanced registration closes on June 17.
LearnRT Member: $120
ALA Member: $150
Non Member: $200

Who will reign supreme in the 4th Battledecks competition at ALA annual? This year we will feature two rounds by having the first ever tournament of champions precede the regular battle. Who will become the Grand Pooba of Battledecks by winning the tournament of champions? Who will come out on top during the battle and win fame and glory? This is truly going to be a highlight of your conference experience as these courageous individuals compete for the honor of being crowned the next champs of the deck.
It’s time to take a whole new look at training and learning. Recent brain research has revealed many of the flaws of traditional approaches to education. Learn about new insights into what really motivates us. Find out what education innovators are doing to increase engagement through learner-centered discovery, flipped classrooms, and enhanced online learning. This discussion will put you in the driver’s seat of your own learning as you experience new strategies first hand. LearnRT joins forces with WebJunction and WALT in facilitating this dynamic discussion.
Battledecks is not for the faint of heart. It is a nerve-wracking event where those competing must create a coherent presentation from a deck of slides that they have never seen before. This is truly the perfect way to end your conference experience as these courageous individuals compete for the glory of being crowned the next champ.
As always, "There Can Be Only One"
