Is it possible to develop new approaches to managing library stacks workflow? The answer is a resounding YES! The management of stacks workflow continues to be a reality for libraries. Learn how to apply "lean manufacturing" concepts to workflow challenges, develop "wayfinding" assessment methods, manage automated stacks storage and retrieval, and integrate wireless workstation technology. Speakers will inspire with tools that can be applied to managing stacks in all types of libraries.

Please join us at the annual meeting in Chicago for presentations by the following speakers:

  • Nancy Kress, Access and Delivery Services Librarian, University of Nevada, Las Vegas
  • Donna Resetar, Associate Dean of Library Services, Valparaiso University Library
  • Johnny Weyand, Head of Stacks, Widener Library, Harvard University Libraries

Discussion Follow up on 7/11 meeting at ALA annual 2009

by Bohyun Kim on Sat, Jul 11, 2009 at 11:06 pm

Here is a  link to a Wiki page (called Online Docs in this site) where you can post program proposals for emerging technologies you would like to learn about in ALA annual 2010:

http://connect.ala.org/node/78083

And this is a forum where we can all continue our discussion about emerging technologies, how to evaluate, adopt or abandon, and implement them, and many other cool topics mentioned in today's meeting at Palmer House.

Discussion Usability Testing for ALA Connect

by Tara Lannen-Stanton on Sat, Jul 11, 2009 at 01:55 pm

I am currently participating in the ALA Connect Usability testing at ALA annual. I am running through a usability scavenger hunt right now. My main complaint is that the type is very small and some of the buttons are very small as well. I like the tagging aspect but it would be nice to have tagging for the communities as there are a lot and they are hard to sort through alphabetically although the search function is nice.
