Blogs, Interactive Media, Groupware, and Wikis Interest Group (LITA BIGWIG) Community

Listed in:

BIGWIG stands for the Blogs, Interactive Groupware Wikis Interest Group, but since its founding in 2005 BIGWIG has been the "Social Software" IG of LITA. Unlike most Interest Groups, BIGWIG is active throughout the year. We are responsible for maintaining the LITABlog, and LITA Wiki. Additionally, we have taken on several projects since our inception including conference blogging and podcasting, and podcasts of interviews with candidates for LITA offices.

BIGWIG also puts on the Social Software Showcase, an online unconference occuring around and during the time of ALA Annual. The Showcase is made up of a wiki where each year we ask our presenters on cutting edge technology and social software to post their presentations. Regardless of where you are in the world, you will have the opportunity to discuss the presentations on the wiki. We have also be have a face to face roundtable discussion with some of our presenters at ALA Annual. Check out some of the content from last year's Showcase to see some of the topics discussed.

Ideas:
~ Maybe sort of a Freindfeed Room for BIGWIG? (extrapolatable to LITA and ALA is a plus)
~ Weed those that can be weeded
~ Which could be weeded?

~ Other ideas (feel free to add your own and expand on any ideas)

PostInterested in Government Info/Technology?

Hi, glad to join this group. I'm really into social media and technologies and its applicability to government information and government documents librarianship. Anyone else here interested in that too?

PostHello

Hello~  I just wanted to introduce myself and express an interest in this community.  I'd be interested in sharing information and ideas on best/most useful blogs/wikis/media.  I have a blog and wiki - I use wordpress and PBwiki, as they are free and for personal use.  What do others use and follow?  I also blog for the IPL and will soon start blogging for ALA CLS and SLA IT.  I look forward to connecting.  Cheers~ Alison Miller, Researcher in Distance Education, The Internet Public Library.
