RSC (RDA Steering Committee) Virtual Meeting

  • 1.  RSC (RDA Steering Committee) Virtual Meeting

    Posted Sep 20, 2021 09:51 AM
    Dear Metadata Interest Group colleagues,

I wanted to forward the following announcement from the RDA Steering Committee (RSC) regarding their upcoming virtual meeting and a discussion paper on Collection Level Description.  As the Core Metadata Interest Group liaison to the CC:DA (Committee on Cataloging: Description and Access), which is the ALA committee tasked with coordinating feedback and revision proposals to the RDA standard, I would be happy to forward any comments you have about the RSC meeting agenda topics or the discussion paper on Collection Level Description to the CC:DA for consideration in advance of the RSC meeting.  These comments can help inform any position taken by CC:DA on the discussion paper.  Please send me your feedback by Monday 27 September.

    Best regards,
    Timothy Ryan Mendenhall

    Begin forwarded message:

The draft agenda for the October 2021 RDA Steering Committee (RSC) meeting is now available on the RSC website. The final version of the agenda will be published just before the meeting begins, but the agenda is not expected to substantively change.

As previously announced, this will be a two-week virtual meeting (12-15 October and 18-22 October), which will use a mix of asynchronous and video meeting styles.

It is not possible to have observers at the asynchronous meetings due to software constraints. Outcomes from that portion of the meeting will be publicly reported as soon as practical.

However, the public session of the agenda will be discussed in a Zoom video call which will be open to observers. This call is scheduled for Monday 18 October 2021 at 14:00 UTC/GMT. It will be a two hour call. The RSC offers apologies to those for whom this is an inconvenient time; as an international body, the group rotates calls throughout time zones to share the burden of middle-of-the-night calls. Outcomes will be publicly reported as soon as practical.

The topics for the public session are:

    • RSC/TechnicalWG/2021/2 -- Collection Level Description
    • Guidance menu possible re-organization
    • RSC communication

Please contact the RSC Secretary, Linda Barnhart at rscsecretary@rdatoolkit.org by 7 October to register to attend the public session.

The RSC does not publish the recordings of its meetings, which are captured for the purpose of creating accurate minutes.
