About this Group

Purpose: Provides a broad framework for information exchange on current research developments, tools, and activities affecting networked information resources and metadata; coordinates and actively participates in the development and review of standards concerning networked resources and metadata in conjunction with the divisions' committees and sections, other units within ALA, and relevant outside agencies; and develops programs and fosters and sponsors education and training opportunities that contribute to and enhance an understanding of networked resources and metadata, their identity, content, technology, access, control, and use; and plans and monitors activities using Core's strategic and tactical plan as a framework.

  • 1.  27 October Event -- OCLC and Linked Data: An update on infrastructure testing and linked data quality

    Please join us on Wednesday, 27 October 2021 at 1:00 pm EDT (UTC -4) for our next virtual meeting highlighting OCLC's recent linked data work and the impact it will have on the library community. During this 1-hour meeting, you will hear from NYU's Charlene Chou along with OCLC experts Anne Washington and Laura Ramsey as they share insights into OCLC's Shared entity management infrastructure project.    

    • Anne Washington, OCLC Product Analyst, will begin with:
      • Latest project updates   
      • What we learned from recent testing
      • Outcomes from OCLC's data workshops 
    • Laura Ramsey, OCLC Sr. Metadata Operations Manager, will follow with: 
      • An overview of our quality composite work
      • Insights into OCLC quality scores
    • Charlene Chou, NYU Head, Knowledge Access, will conclude with:
      • Challenges that NYU hopes to address with linked data technologies 
      • Observations from recently concluded testing
      • Perspectives on OCLC's data modeling
      • Skills and competencies that will be important to metadata workers

    These presentations will be followed by questions and answers as time permits, and please know that this session will be recorded and shared with all session registrants.
