Hi All,
*another email that did not go through due not having updated my email address*
The University of Alabama is a beta partner in the FOLIO project, an open source library services platform. Many partner libraries (including UA) want to be able to use MARC holdings, while others don't see this as a priority.
I was wondering if your library holdings records are in MARC? If so, would you be willing to move to non-MARC holdings? If your holdings records are non-MARC, what factors influenced that decision?
My personal feelings are that I'm not attached to MARC holdings as long as the data remains strongly structured. However, there are some projects we are currently involved in (i.e., OCLC retention programs) that require us to share selected holdings in MARC format, so I could see non-MARC holdings complicating those particular workflows.
Thanks,
Brian Clark | Metadata Librarian
