    Preservation Week 2022, April 24-30

Celebrate "Preservation in the Face of Climate Change" during Preservation Week 2022, April 24-30, with the free webinars "How to Implement Sustainability in your Facility" and "Digital Preservation's Impact on the Environment". During these webinars, attendees will gain an understanding of what guidance they'll need from their institutions, as well as what information to collect, in order to begin the sustainability process and explore the individual and organizational practices that could adversely impact the environment.

On Tuesday, April 26 at 1 pm CT, Core will host "How to Implement Sustainability in your Facility". Focusing on ways to start gathering data and information to begin the process of providing sustainable strategies for institutions, presenters will discuss in detail the sustainable energy saving strategies that collecting institutions can implement, including how to begin a data monitoring program. Individuals from collecting institutions of any size who are interested in discovering ways they can start assessing their facility to understand what type of sustainable strategies they can implement are invited to participate in this webinar.

The second free Preservation Week webinar "Digital Preservation's Impact on the Environment" will be presented on Thursday, April 28 at 1 pm CT. This webinar will explore the energy consumption and e-waste generated in current preservation infrastructures and actions, and review the environmental impact embodied in the full lifecycle of these infrastructures. The host will provide recommendations for actions and policies to mitigate digital preservation's impact on the environment. In addition to libraries and cultural heritage organizations concerned about their impact on the environment, we invite the general public to participate this Preservation Week event as it will review digital storage media and technologies that individuals take for granted. At the end of this session, attendees will have a greater knowledge of their individual and organizational practices that could adversely impact the environment and have new ideas on how to change their practices.
